Age Discrimination Legislation

This was a really useful and timely talk from Carole Elliot advising us about legislation coming in to force on 1st October. Carole explained how this new legislation can affect so many parts of our business as all age groups are included and the Act includes indirect discrimination which means that words such as 'experienced', 'energetic', 'flexible' might be seen as identifying an age preferrence. Staff must now be selected purely on skills and competancy. What a minefield! Suggest that anyone preparing to employ or carry out selection for promotion contacts Carole to help them avoid the many pitfalls that await!
