What makes a great LinkedIn profile and how to optimise your profile for search

Thursday, 07 April 2016 00:00

When it comes to business there is one social media platform that stands head and shoulders above the rest and that's LinkedIn.  Only last month LinkedIn, which is the world's largest online professional network with over 277 million members worldwide, announced that it had passed 15 million members in the UK, a 50 percent increase from 10 million members in September 2012.

So how do you make sure you can stand out from the crowd to maximise your opportunities of connecting with the people you want to, whether that is seeking potential customers, suppliers, business partners or employees?  Or maybe you are just looking for a fresh start?

The answer is your LinkedIn profile.  It is here that you present your face to the world and it is here that your journey starts to achieve your connection goals.  But what makes a good profile and how do you optimise it?

To answer these questions and more, we are delighted to welcome Mick Holloway, from 24-7 Business Networking Ltd to our next breakfast meeting on 7th April, when he will run through the 'do's' and 'don'ts' of creating a great profile.  Mick is a true social media 'guru', with a wealth of experience in helping businesses and individuals achieve their social media goals.

So what ever stage you're at with LinkedIn, whether it's novice, getting by, or seasoned professional, come along on Thursday and pick up some great tips.

Business Cafe AGM (open to non members)

Thursday, 24 March 2016 00:00

Our annual AGM.

Following the formalities of our (brief) AGM we are going to discuss the latest Business Cafe book club book, 'Triggers: Sparking Positive Change and Making It Last' by Marshall Goldsmith.  Chris Crace has volunteered to lead the discussion.

According to the book summary on Amazon, 'Triggers' confronts head-on the challenges of behaviour and change, looking at the external factors (or 'triggers') - both negative and positive - that affect our behaviours, our awareness of when we need to change, our willingness (or otherwise) to do so and our ability to see the change through.

The goal is for these sessions to be inclusive so that even if someone has not read the selected book they can participate in the broader discussion about the theme of the book.  So, if you are planning to visit the Business Cafe this week and the topic intrigues you then grab a copy of the book otherwise feel free to come along anyway and share your thoughts on the topic.

The pains of software that makes you truly more profitable

Thursday, 25 February 2016 00:00

For most businesses software is a means to an end, but nevertheless critical for running efficiently to save money, capturing information to make the best decisions, identifying and communicating sales opportunities, ensuring consistent service to customers, making it easier for your customers to reach you and much more.

Despite all this many businesses are stuck in a middle-ground, needing such systems to cater for their uniqueness but lacking the in-house expertise to objectively deliver something effective and unsure how to choose from so many options.

Dominic Tyler-Lovett from Conclusys will be discussing how it's possible to get software that saves you money, makes you more money - for less money!  We'd now like to discuss how this has been working and ask for your valuable feedback on the company's overall presentation.

Another installment in our series of 'Show and Tell' sessions where we have an interactive session with the attendees of the breakfast meeting.

During previous 'Show and Tell' sessions we have always come away with fresh ideas and exposure to different topics of interest to those present.

In this session we will be asking our members and visitors to bring along anything or any info that that feel is worth sharing.  Have you bought any gadgets in the last 12 months that you think others may get find useful?  Do you have any handy sources of information, news or advice that may be of use to others?  Do you follow the blogs of any thought leaders or inspirational figures?  Do you have any handy tips that may help someone save money or operate their business more effectively?  With the rate of change in the world in general there are always new and interesting things to share - perhaps it is not something new but something you have only just come across - let us know at this meeting.

Veteran Members Session

Thursday, 19 November 2015 00:00

We have a number of members who have been stalwarts at the Business Cafe for many years. Our newer members get a opportunity to tell us about their businesses not long after they join but we seldom return to our existing members to either discover their stories for the first time (for the newer members), or revisit their stories if you were around when they initially joined the Business Cafe. Over the coming months we are going to rectify this situation.

This week we will be giving two of these grizzled veterans, namely Chris Crace from Business Life Ltd and Quentin Colborn from QC People Management, the chance to give us an insight into their businesses and a bit of background about themselves.
