Padded Shorts & Lemon Drizzle Cake...

Thursday, 16 July 2015 00:00

Our very own Damian Culhane is taking part in a charity event in July - cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats, covering 1,000 miles over a ten day period. Damian will be sharing some funny stories about the training he has undertaken so far and the lessons he has already learnt, including an unfortunate incident with some lemon drizzle cake..!

There will be a chance for you to learn lots of interesting facts about the equipment, eating for energy, the route and padded shorts!!

This is a humorous look at a life changing challenge and Damian promises to entertain us - although he has already agreed NOT to wear the lycra!!

Veteran Members Session

Thursday, 04 June 2015 00:00

We have a number of members who have been stalwarts at the Business Cafe for many years. Our newer members get a opportunity to tell us about their businesses not long after they join but we seldom return to our existing members to either discover their stories for the first time (for the newer members), or revisit their stories if you were around when they initially joined the Business Cafe. Over the coming months we are going to rectify this situation.

This week we will be giving two of these grizzled veterans, namely Paul Mitchell from Mitchell Associates and Peter Disney from Wood & Disney, the chance to give us an insight into their businesses and a bit of background about themselves.

Crowdfunding

Thursday, 07 May 2015 00:00

The topic for this week's meeting is 'Crowdfunding', the practice of funding a project or venture by raising monetary contributions from a large number of people, typically via the internet.  A talk and discussion on the rise and rise of the innovative world of crowdfunding and peer-to-peer lending and its impact on the business and finance world of tomorrow.  James Davison from Birketts is going to give us his perspective on this fast growing source of finance.

James trained with Birketts and qualified into the Corporate team in 2010. He deals primarily with corporate finance transactions and mergers & acquisitions.

Our Ideal Customer

Thursday, 23 April 2015 00:00

At this meeting we will return to a slightly different format where each person present stands up and tells us the about types of contacts/introductions that they would like to receive to help move their businesses forwards.  We are gradually working through the membership so this time it may be your turn to step forward and let us know what is on your mind.

Please put your thinking hats on so we can find out what each of you require – it can be as specific (focussing on the short term) or general as you wish. Think about the characteristics of your ideal client, although don't just resort to 'someone you has just won the lottery and is happy to spend lots of money with you'!

Marketing - What Works for Me

Thursday, 12 March 2015 00:00

At the Business Cafe our members have very different backgrounds and experience across a diverse range of business sectors.  This week we are going to share our experiences with regards to the various forms of marketing which are currently working for each of us.

It may be case that you find the most effective form of marketing for your specific business to be a traditional approach.  Perhaps networking delivers all the business you can cope with, perhaps not.  You might be experimenting with different approaches and seeing different results.  Come along this week and let us know about the good, the bad, and the absolutely awful things that you may have tried.  All your experiences will have value when shared with others, including things which have not worked out well.

Ask a few questions and share your stories - hopefully the other attendees will get some ideas that they can try in their business.
