Body Language - hints & tips for business owners

Thursday, 21 June 2012 09:59

Damiane Culhane from Perceptions Coaching is back with us for a dynamic session on body language.

Understanding non-verbal communication is essential in business & many organisations recognise the importance of this valuable skill for sales people, managers & directors. Recent findings & research suggest that body language accounts for between 60% - 80% of the impact made in business meetings, recruitment, board meetings & negotiations.

This advanced interactive & informative training workshop de-mystifies this vital management skill, explaining & demonstrating the following areas:

  • How to understand other peoples non-verbal signals
  • How to deal with handshakes & make the right first impression
  • Eye signals & the meaning of eye patterns (linked to Neuro-Linguistic Programming)
  • Useful observations to be aware of & identify common gestures
  • Know when a decision making gesture or barrier is being used

Our presentation today will be given by Stephen Beresky from the Career Academy at Colchester Institute. The Career Academy aims to bridge the gap between what school leavers offer businesses and what businesses need from school leavers. He’ll be joined by some of the students who will explain how they are benefitting from the programme.

The Business Café has previously engaged with young entrepreneurs at Essex University, and this session will provide members and their guests with a wider understanding of the role that business can play in helping the next generation make the best possible start to their careers, while adding greater value to the business world they are entering.

The BIG debate on Europe

Thursday, 15 March 2012 00:00

Europe – and our relationship with it – not only dominates the headlines these days but crops up in our breakfast conversations quite a bit. So, the Business Café has decided to grasp the bull by the horns and to have a debate about where we stand - or should stand, or would like to stand, depending on your opinion.

On March 15th Business Café member Gary Horsley will propose the motion......

It is in the best interests of the UK to engage more fully with the European Union

Opposing the motion will be Chris Crace.

This is likely to be a lively debate, with opportunity for questions and points from the floor, and a possible need for volunteers to mop up the blood afterwards. If you have strong views on whether our relationship with Europe needs to change - and if so, how - why not join us?
